Planning a trip to Japan in October 2026
When I was set to graduate college, I was planning a gift to myself by traveling to Japan for 2 weeks. It was an ideal time in life. I was still living with my parent and I had enough savings to spend for that kind of trip. Unfortunately, I graduated college in 2020, so obviously that did not happen.
Fast forward to now, I'm 5 years into my career, and I'm not getting any younger. I figure I might as well finally do it. The catalyst for this decision actually stems from work. In June of this year, I am required to travel to Munich, Germany for a week. This will be the very first time I travel outside of the continental United States. Since I will have experience with international travel, I decided to finally make this trip I've wanted to make for years now.
My plan at the moment is to only go for a week and to only visit Tokyo. From what I've read, for the first time visiting Japan, it's good to limit the places you visit. There's so much to see, and I figure it's good to not spread myself too thin. My primary plans are to see Shibuya, Kabukicho, Akihabara, and Yokohama, which would involve some travel but that shouldn't be too difficult given the available public transit.
As far as specific things I want to do/see, honestly I don't have much of a plan. I really just want to go and be in Tokyo for a week and play it by ear. In general I'm really bad at organizing hour-by-hour days like this and when I do, I don't feel like I'm able to relax. I know I'll wanna see some specific things like one of those Shiba Inu cafes, or that beef restaurant I remember Woolie mentioning on the old Super Best Friendcast back in the day. I definitely am going to wanna see an arcade or something like that. Overall though, I like being flexible when it comes to this kind of thing.
My hope is I'll be able to travel to Japan again in the future so I can do more of a touristy trip. With all that said though, maybe I'm going about this all wrong. I would absolutely love suggestions for things to see and if I should take a day trip out to a different location. Please hit me up on Discord with any kind of suggestions. I am all ears!
